Marywood University reached the Atlantic East Conference women’s volleyball final with a 3-0 sweep of Immaculata University on Thursday at Insalaco Arena by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-13.

It is the first appearance in a conference title match for the Pacers since 1993. No. 2 seed Marywood faces defending champ and top-seeded Marymount University on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Taylor Hallam finished with a team-high 16 points on 11 kills and added five aces. Emilie Agnoli had eight aces, while Ayla Bransford totaled 31 assists to move to second all-time with 872 single-season assists. Carolina Samaniego had nine kills.

Scranton 3, Catholic 0: At Scranton, the University of Scranton swept Catholic University, 25-19, 25-21, 28-26, in the Landmark Conference semifinals at the John Long Center.

Deanna Whelpley had 14 kills and four aces for the Royals (21-10). Adria Vargas totaled 12 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Gwen Koester chipped in nine kills and three blocks. Cammi Quirk had 39 assists, Camryn Hoffman 15 digs and Danielle Kramer five blocks and two aces.

Scranton heads to Juniata on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Landmark Conference final.

Women’s basketball

At Jersey City, New Jersey, the second-ranked University of Scranton rolled past New Jersey City University, 87-46, to improve to 3-0.

Freshman and Dunmore graduate Sophia Talutto led the Lady Royals with 15 points, 12 of which came in the second quarter when Scranton outscored New Jersey City, 28-9, to build a 51-20 lead at halftime.

Meghan Lamanna added 11 points and Elizabeth Bennett chipped in 10 points and six rebounds. Kaci Kranson had nine points and six rebounds, while Kaeli Romanowski totaled six assists, seven steals and five rebounds.

Scranton’s defense forced 16 turnovers and its bench produced 52 points.

 Wrestling

At Scranton, the University of Scranton defeated Lackawanna College, 45-11, in a dual meet at the Lackawanna College Student Union.

The Royals won eight of 10 bouts, six by pin: Joe Cappello (125), Charles Arbone (141), Luke Burke (157), Donnell Young (174), Jack McCaffrey (184) and Max Shnipes (285).

Sam Vissers won by technical fall at 133 pounds and Jeremiah Diaz had a pin at 197 pounds for the Falcons.
