Five people were hospitalized in several pile-up crashes along Interstate 83 in York County on Thursday night, according to the Fairview Township Fire Department. Another man staying at the hotel said his wife heard what sounded like massive mounds of metal slamming together, and that’s when she called him. “She called me and said, ‘Do not come home 83, south or north, because there was a horrible accident in front of our house.’ And that’s why I said, ‘Well, we’re not.’ When we left his house, we had to come the back way. 18 vehicles involved, troopers say

According to Pennsylvania State Police, a total of 18 vehicles were involved in multiple crashes along the interstate.

Troopers said the largest crash involved nine vehicles, including two tractor-trailers.

Secondary crashes were reported in the backlog of the main collision.

According to state police, a total of five people were injured and transported to area hospitals. Their conditions are unknown.

‘Do not come home 83’

A worker at a nearby hotel said she heard what sounded like a heavy load falling off a tractor-trailer.

Another man staying at the hotel said his wife heard what sounded like massive mounds of metal slamming together, and that’s when she called him.

Six people were hospitalized in a 12-vehicle pile-up along Interstate 83 in York County on Thursday night, according to the Fairview Township Fire Department.

“She called me and said, ’Do not come home 83.’”

“She called me and said, ‘Do not come home 83, south or north, because there was a horrible accident in front of our house.’ And that’s why I said, ‘Well, we’re not.’ When we left his house, we had to come the back way. It took us 20 minutes to take a four-minute ride,” he said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
