READING, Pa. – Lauer’s Park Elementary School in Reading is giving students a taste of Puerto Rican tradition before they taste their Thanksgiving turkey.
The school hosted a Puerto Rican-style turkey run, otherwise known as “La Carrera del Pavo.”
153 Lauer’s Park students who had perfect attendance for the first quarter took part in races. The winners get a turkey to enjoy with their families.
“We had 153 students who had perfect attendance for the first quarter, which, yes, it’s a great accomplishment. A lot of healthy kids and not only healthy physically, but very resilient, so we’re very proud of their accomplishment,” said Jasmin Sanchez-Lopez.
This is the first year the school put its own twist on this tradition.
Organizers say around 60 students won turkeys today.
