Redner’s Markets has begun construction on a new store in Wilmington, Del., the Berks County-based grocer’s first in that market.

The 52,000-square-foot store will be the first with Redner’s Fresh Market 2.0 store layout, which focuses on enhanced convenience and customer experience, the company said in a press release.

The store at 4365 Kirkwood Highway will include in-store food offerings and dedicated retail islands with products and convenient meals that include smash burgers, hot donuts, lobster rolls and artisanal breads.

“We’re so excited to break ground on this new location and give our future customers in Wilmington a glimpse of everything our new Fresh Market will offer,” Redner’s President and CEO Ryan Redner said in a statement. “This new Fresh Market concept and layout makes shopping a little bit more convenient, a little bit more affordable, and a little bit more fun.”

The new store, which is expected to open in summer 2026, will include retail islands with artisanal cheeses and store-made mozzarella, deli and prepared foods, meats and frozen foods, organic and gluten-free products and more, the company said.

Some of the dedicated islands will include:

• Carnival Crush, offering nostalgic fair treats like popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs and funnel cakes.

• Earl’s Smashburgers, offering burgers, fries, shakes and soft-serve with a dedicated eat-in “diner.”

• Big Gary’s Famous Chicken, offering bone-in fried chicken, wings and strips as part of meals and ready-made to-go options.

• Fisher’s Pier, offering bread bowls of clam chowder or shrimp gumbo as well as lobster rolls, crab cakes and shrimp po’boys.

• Marybakes, offering signature store-made cookies and artisan breads fresh from the oven, party cakes and hot donuts.

As part of the groundbreaking, Redner’s made a $5,000 donation to Jamie Moulthrop of Table of Plenty, a nonprofit that offers food assistance, clothing and empowerment programming to needy families and individuals.

“As we look ahead, we are excited not only to expand our store design and food offerings, but to expand the partnerships that matter most to our customers,” Gary M. Redner, chief operating officer, said in a statement. “We’re honored to support Table of Plenty and look forward to serving our customers and our community partners in the years to come.”

Headquartered in Maidencreek Township, Redner’s Markets Inc., is an employee-owned company that operates 44 grocery stores and 24 Quick Shops throughout eastern Pennsylvania — including Berks and Montgomery counties — as well as in Maryland and Delaware.
