The city of Erie is making strides in transforming the old Miller Brothers property into a public safety facility, but it still has a lot of work ahead of it.
The city has plans to turn the building on State Street into a hub for its police and fire department services, but first, it’s focused on repairs.

Currently, the city is spending around $1 million to repair the roof of the facility, which Erie Mayor Joe Schember expects to be complete before the end of the year.
“Big picture is to really fill this place up, and there’s three different projects that we’ll do,” Schember said. “The first two, we have funded, the third one is not funded yet, but hopefully that will get funded in the future. And this is going to be a great location here. It’s going to be very attractive too to people driving by.”
Mayor Schember said that the city is already using the building to store some vehicles, and he expects phase two to be done by the end of next year.
