Frederick Lubas
OBITUARY
Frederick Lubas, 89, passed away November 13, 2025 in his Lower Alsace Township home,
where he lived the last 55 years of his life, his dog Bow at the foot of his bed.
He was born in Reading, a son of the late Frank and Mary Lubas.
Fred ran track and played football for Central Catholic class of 1954. He was a medal winner
at the Penn Relays with his one mile relay team. He loved fishing, watching Eagles games
and visiting local diners in his golden years. He was loved by all.
After high school, Fred served in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958
at Loring Air Force base in Maine. Fred was a patrolman for the City of Reading from 1961 to 1982.
He was honored in 1962 by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for his courage
and honor for the performance of his duties. He also worked security for Lucent Technologies
until the closure of the plant. From age 70 to 80, Fred was a teacher’s aide and cared for
severely autistic children at the Reading School District. Whenever he missed class, the students
would be upset and the other aides would have to tell the children “don’t worry your
dad will be back tomorrow”.
He is survived by a son, Larry Lubas and his partner, Angelina Longo, grandson, Michael Lubas
and spouse, Kateryna, great grandson, Noah and great granddaughter, Hanna,
granddaughter, Judy (Lubas) Merkle and spouse, Devon and great grandson, Calvin Merkle.
Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Kathy Lubas, grandson, Austin Lubas and spouse, Olivia,
granddaughter, Chelsea (Lubas) Kingle and spouse, Randy, great grandsons: Davie Wayne Lubas
and Randy Kingle III. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Dorothy (Kindlick) Lubas, his son,
Wayne D. Lubas, his sister, Joanne (Lubas) Ambrose and his second wife, Annette Lubas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 21st at 10:00 AM in
St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 250 S. 12th Street, Reading, PA 19602.
Friends may pay their condolences on Thursday, November 20th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM
at the Gallman-Sonoski Funeral home, 910 Chestnut Street, Reading, PA 19602 and again
on Friday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
