The Erie Sports Commission announced that the 2025 Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships, hosted by Champion Cheer Central, has received the Champions of Economic Impact Award from Sports Destination Management, a leading national sports tourism publication.

The event, held April 5 through the 6 at Erie Insurance Arena, welcomed 270 teams and 3,295 athletes, a 51% increase from 2024, making it the largest in Champion Cheer Central’s history. The competition attracted an estimated 5,715 overnight visitors, generated 2,806 room nights, and delivered an estimated $2.9 million economic impact in just one weekend.

“We are incredibly excited to see the growth of the Lake Erie National Cheer and Dance Championships in Erie,” said Heather Petz, co-owner of Champion Cheer Central. “This year’s event brought teams from Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, and Canada.”

Erie Sports Commission Executive Director Mark Jeanneret praised the recognition, calling it a testament to the dedication of organizers and athletes.

The 2026 championships will return April 11 through 12. Additional upcoming events include Lights! Camera! Action! Cheer and Dance Extravaganza on Dec. 6 through 7 and Winter Beach Blast on Jan. 10, both at the Bayfront Convention Center.
