John W. (Bill) Montgomery, Jr.
OBITUARY
John W. (Bill) Montgomery, Jr., 86, formerly of Dalton, passed away on Friday at Allied Skilled, Scranton. He was the widower of Barbara Ann Hochreiter Montgomery. The couple had been married 55 years prior to her death in 2017.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late John William Montgomery Sr. and Phyllis Elizabeth Swartz Montgomery. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and served in the United States Navy, including three years on the USS Thuban. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for thirty years in Tech Repair Service at IBM.
Bill was an elder in the former Providence United Presbyterian Church and was currently a member of the Dunmore Presbyterian Church. He lived over 50 years in Dalton and served his community as a member of the Dalton Lions Club, a long-time Dalton Council member, and decades-long volunteer at the Dalton Carnival. He was an avid fisherman who contributed to the start of the Dalton Fishing Derby. In addition, he was a wonderful piano player.
Surviving are a son, John Mongomery III and wife Penny of Lake Kasoag, NY; daughters Dawn Richards of Dalton and Tamara Pierre of East Benton; grandchildren J.D. Pierre and wife Jessica, Chris Pierre and wife Kelly, John W. Montgomery IV, Neil Montgomery and wife Sarah, Daniel W. Richards, and Neil, Nancy, and Nicole Levensailor; ten great grandchildren; brothers Paul Montgomery and wife Anne, Robert Montgomery and wife Cathy; and sister Lynda Holyk and husband Raymond.
A funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 am at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State Street, Clarks Summit, with interment to follow at Fairview Memorial Park. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm.
The family would like to thank Allied Services Skilled and Allied Hospice for the compassionate care shown to Bill.
