Thousands of residents of Kenhorst and Reading’s 18th Ward are being advised to boil water from their taps as a precautionary measure following temporary loss of pressure due to a main break Monday night in the 500 block of Lancaster Avenue.
Reading Area Water Authority crews repaired the broken main. Before pressure was restored to the system, as many as 8,000 homes and businesses had no or low water pressure, officials said.
The area was placed under a boil-water advisory — meaning tap water should not be consumed or used for brushing teeth without first being boiled to kill impurities — until testing is completed.
Residents will receive a second notice when the advisory is lifted in about three days, the authority said.
