BETHLEHEM — First Selectman-Elect Ray Butkus was sworn-in on November 11 as the new First Selectman of Bethlehem. The Oath of Office was administered by Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz at the Bethlehem Town Hall. Lt. Governor Bysiewicz also swore-in the other town officials elected in the municipal elections on November 4. In her remarks, the Lieutenant Governor extended her congratulations to all those taking office and acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions made by those in small-town public office.

Following taking the oath, First Selectman Butkus, in his remarks, thanked Lt. Governor Bysiewicz for her attendance and spoke of the special significance of being sworn in as veteran on Veterans Day. Moreover, he pledged to “always work for the best interests of the town of Bethlehem, without partisan bias or orientation.” He further stated his belief that “good governance requires collaboration and compromise” and that he intends to do just that.

Also occurring during her visit, Lt. Governor Bysiewicz, along with members of the Daughters of the American Revolution, presented Sal Zarrella, the last living veteran of World War II in Bethlehem who turned 100 in July, with a Quilt of Valor, a program started by the DAR to provide comfort to those veterans touched by war.

The event was attended by a large number of family and friends of the elected officials as well those of Mr. Zarella.
