University of Scranton
Four local students studied abroad during the summer 2025 semester.
Vincenzo Angeloni of Jessup, majoring in media production and journalism, studied at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad Scandinavia in Stockholm, Sweden.
Abigail Drozdick of Eynon, majoring in biology, studied at Southern Cross University, Lismore – Northern Rivers in Lismore, Australia.
Madison Markiewicz of Archbald, majoring in kinesiology, participated in the university travel course, Sports and Physical Culture in Ancient Greece in Athens, Greece.
Madison Waltz of Dunmore, majoring in chemistry, participated in the university travel course, Christ, Resistance, and Reconciliation in Berlin, Germany.
Two local students are serving as student teachers at local schools.
Liam J. Ahern of Dunmore, majoring in early and primary teacher education, will teach at Dunmore Elementary Center in the Dunmore School District.
Abigail C. Luongo of Dunmore, majoring in early and primary teacher education, will teach at Dunmore Elementary Center in the Dunmore School District.
Michael J. Howard of Mayfield was among the 14 members of the University of Scranton’s class of 2025 who graduated from its Magis Honors Program in STEM. Howard graduated, summa cum laude, as a biology and philosophy double major. Howard worked with faculty mentor Vincent Farallo, Ph.D., assistant professor of biology, on a thesis project titled “The Effect of an Alkaloid-Based Diet on Metabolic Rate in the Poison Frog Species Ranitomeya variabilis.” Howard is a member of the University’s Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program.
Wichita State University
Amarilis L. Acevedo, Maggie V. Smith and Brittany N. Wright, all of Scranton, were named to the dean’s honor roll for spring 2025.
To qualify, a student must be enrolled full time and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Youngstown State University
Amelia Murphy of Carbondale, majoring in social work, was named to the president’s list for achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the spring semester 2025.
To be eligible for the president’s list, honorees must be full-time undergraduate students with a 4.0 GPA.
Murphy was also named to the dean’s list. Dean’s list recognition is awarded to students who have earned at least a 3.4 grade point average.
