Allentown City Council rejects property tax increase proposal | Allentown Area

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Allentown City Council is pushing back against a property tax increase proposed by the mayor.

Wednesday night, council members rejected a 4% bump on property taxes.

Instead, they approved balancing next year’s budget with $1.5 million from the city’s cash reserves.

Opponents say they didn’t want to increase property taxes the same year trash fees are already going up.

A final budget vote is set for Dec. 10.
