BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Chilly fall days have officially arrived in the Lehigh Valley. It’s the perfect time to cook up a warm pot of chili.

The SouthSide Art District’s ChiliFest is kicking off this Saturday.

69 News Reporter Cierra Genelle is getting a taste ahead of the event, which will take place on Oct. 18 from noon to 4 p.m.

The event originated as a grassroots cook-off, part of the spring festival Spring on Fourth, What’s on Third? (later Spring on the SouthSide), according to the SouthSide Arts District website.

It was a celebration that united local businesses, neighbors, and chili lovers from across Bethlehem, the website says.

Local restaurants and businesses compete with their own recipes to win the Pepper Awards, handmade by artist Dennis Gardner and his team at the ArtsQuest Glass Blowing Studio, the SouthSide Arts District says.

The website says chili tasting stands are stationed throughout Bethlehem’s 3rd and 4th Streets. Walking is required and wearing comfortable shoes is recommended.

The SouthSide Arts District says all participating event locations are located within a 20-minute walking radius.

Regular admission is $35. College student admission is $30, when people use a valid college/university student email address at checkout.

The festival goes on rain or shine.
