READING, Pa – For one father and business manager at Screpesi’s Sandwich Shop – it started with an unfortunate facetime from the kids.
“I had my kids call me last night,” said Mike Ostrowski with Screpesi’s Sandwiches. “They Facetimed me right outside the window here, and there were a bunch of guys out in the sidewalk.”
But – as Reading Area Water Authority crews worked to repair a water main break they say impacted 8,000 customers and brought about a two-day boil water advisory along Lancaster Ave – Dad knew what to do.
“I just told them to get a bunch of pots of water together in case we didn’t have it for tomorrow,” he said.
After all – he’s had to do it before.
“We had a water main break a few months ago right down at the barber academy,” he recalled.
RAWA says only one home is without water, and that’s being worked on. As traffic is impacted with shifting lanes – officials say the road is being repaired as well – as the water woes are working their way back to normal.
“Today, I came in. Water’s running. We have no problems. We just have to boil it, they told us, before we use anything to cook.”
So RAWA works to plug the break – and the good manager that he is – took a moment for a plug.
“Come to Screpesi’s. Great sandwiches.”
