WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. – State officials want you to make sure that your dogs are properly licensed.

Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding stopped by the Orchard Hills Training Center in Washington Township, just outside of Bally, Thursday.

The secretary was joined by dog owners to talk about the process.

Officials say having your dogs licensed is not only required by Pennsylvania law, but it also makes your community safer.

“The best protection for a dog is a license. Why? Now that license on the collar lets anyone who finds the dog know where it is, where it’s from, and if it’s lost, you get it back,” Redding said.

The deadline to apply for your dog license in 2026 is Jan. 1.

Berks County says dog license fees will go up starting Dec. 1.
