A man is critically injured after an altercation inside a home in Philadelphia’s Mayfair neighborhood led to a shooting.

According to police, just before 11:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a person with a knife and shooting on the 7200 block of Walker Street.

Police said when officers arrived on the scene, they found a 28-year-old man on the front steps of his home with two gunshot wounds to the chest. Officers rushed the man to the hospital, where he is now listed in critical condition.

The alleged shooter, a 27-year-old man, stayed on the scene, according to police. Officers transported him to police headquarters for questioning.

Police shared that an investigation revealed that both men live at that home and had been arguing over a woman. Officers had previously been called to that home at least once earlier that day for a disturbance.

Investigators believe the altercation continued later in the day, and the shooting happened inside the house.

Three spent shell casings from a semi-automatic gun and a knife were found inside the home after the shooting, police said.

Police shared that the 28-year-old man claims he had been locked out of the house and forced to open he rear door. He was carrying a knife during the altercation he had with the shooter.

There were four to five witnesses inside the home during the time of the shooting, police said. They were all taken to police headquarters for interviews.

Police said detectives obtained a search warrant and are recovering ballistic evidence, the knife, and the semi-automatic handgun.

At this time, police have not yet revealed whether any arrests were made.
