An Erie Bureau of Police vehicle was heavily damaged and the officer driving it was taken to the hospital for evaluation after police said a 15-year-old boy who took the family vehicle crashed into the police cruiser Nov. 21.

The accident was reported shortly after 1 a.m. Nov. 21 at East 21st and Holland streets. According to Erie police, a 15-year-old boy was driving a black sport-utility vehicle when he crashed into a city police cruiser. The officer who was driving the cruiser was taken to the hospital with a suspected concussion, police said.

The boy drove away after the accident and the SUV was eventually located in the 900 block of East Eighth Street, according to police. The boy is facing charges including driving without a license, speeding, driving through a stop sign, recklessly endangering and accidents involving death or personal injury, police reported.
