In Montgomery County, Lower Merion Township officials have introduced a new ordinance that will phase out gas-powered leaf blowers, leading to a full ban by 2029.
The Board of Commissioners recently voted to limit gas-powered leaf blowers to certain seasons in 2026, 2027, and 2028, and then ban them completely starting in 2029.
Township officials said the goal of the ban is to give the community a peaceful, cleaner environment.
The ordinance also seeks to ban the use of electric leaf blowers powered by a gas generator.
Anyone caught using a gas-powered leaf blower after the ban is in place will first receive a warning. If it happens again, they could be fined up to $600.
