The Erie County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about scam phone calls claiming that a warrant has been issued for missing jury duty and demanding payment to resolve the issue. Officials emphasize that this is always a scam.
The Sheriff’s Office will never call to request payment of any kind and will never ask for money through gift cards, cryptocurrency, bank transfers, or other methods. Scammers may sound convincing, use fake deputy names, send fraudulent warrants, or reference the courthouse address but all of this is fraudulent.
If you receive one of these calls, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately. You can also file an online complaint with the FBI at www.ic3.gov.
