• Advent Lutheran Church, 16 Telford Ave., West Lawn, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Sunday. There will be an extended prelude with a brass ensemble, handbell choir, adult choir and piano-organ duet beginning at 9:45 a.m. The service will be conducted by its designated pastor, the Rev. Thomas F. Irwin Jr., and assisted by two previously called pastors, the Rev. William B. Fryer and the Rev. Wayne A. Heintzelman. The liturgy for the service will be used from the Common Service Book and Hymnal (also called the Black Book), which was published in 1917 and widely used by Lutheran churches when Advent was founded. Refreshments will be served after worship in Memorial Hall.
• Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, welcomes the Reading Symphony Junior String Orchestra (RSJSO), under the direction of Dr. Peter Brye, to its 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday. Brye is the founding conductor of the Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra and is in his 50th season as a member of the Reading Symphony Orchestra. He has conducted many orchestra festivals throughout the Northeast, including the all-state festivals for Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey and is a retired professor of music from Millersville University.
• St. John’s Gernant’s Church (A Federated Congregation), 13 Gernant’s Church Road, Ontelaunee Township, will worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Memorial Hall. It will be Jingle Sunday with the collecting of loose coins to be used for the needy. All of the Jingle money will be donated to Family Promise of Berks County. Fellowship will follow the service. During the month of November, the church is collecting new winter pajamas for children, sizes newborn to XXL 18. The pajamas will be distributed through Lighthouse Women and Children’s Center. Tuesday Bible study will be held at 1 p.m. in the Memorial Hall.
• The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Reading, 438 Douglass St., Wyomissing, will hold its annual Thanksgiving service on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Along with readings from the Bible and Science and Health, there will be an opportunity for each to express gratitude. Child care will be provided.
• Nativity Lutheran Church, 1501 N. 13th St., Reading, will hold its annual Christmas bazaar on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Sweitzer Hall. There will be baked goods, Christmas crafts, white elephant sale, food and vendors.
• St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Road, Amity Township, will hold its Christmas bazaar on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. It will feature wreaths and cemetery boxes made with fresh greens, homemade pies, cookies, apple dumplings, candy, chow chow, crafts, raffle, flute recital, attic treasures and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. • The deadline to order turkey potpie from St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 219 Maidencreek Road, Richmond Township, is Dec. 1. Cost is $10 per quart. Call Beverly at 484-529-1893 to orrder. Pick up at Christmas bazaar, which will be held on Dec. 6 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be a variety of cookies to buy. The white elephant sale includes vintage 33 rpm jazz, big band, etc. albums, 78 rpm records, children’s golden records and other vintage items, along with CD’s, books, household goods and decorations. There are crafters and lunch items for sale. A free picture with Santa is offered from 10 a.m.-noon.
• Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will hold Coffee and Conversation on Sunday at 8:30 and 10 a.m. in the Welcome Center.
• The Cultural Series Team of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 117 E. Arch St., Fleetwood, is presenting a Christmas concert on Sunday at 3 p.m. by Mount Laurel Brass. Mount Laurel Brass is a seven-piece brass ensemble from Berks and Chester counties. Mount Laurel Brass takes the traditional brass quintet instrumentation, two trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba, and adds an additional trombone and euphonium for a larger fuller sound. You do not need tickets but there will be a free will offering to help defray the costs.
• The 47th annual Sing Messiah will be held on Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 30 Liberty St., Shillington. This is a community event with soloists and the Berks Chamber Orchestra (a sub group of the Reading Pops Orchestra) performing the Christmas portion of the music of Handel. The audience gets to be the chorus. This is a free will offering event. Soloists are Katherin Crusi, soprano; Maria Damore, alto; Orin Strunk, tenor; and Kent Bollman, bass, under the direction of Bill Snelling. Bring your own libretto if you have one, others will be available at the church. Non-singing participants are welcome.
• United Church of Christ of Robesonia, 301 W. Penn Ave., will hold its annual Christmas bazaar today from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be raffle baskets, attic treasures and food and candy to purchase. • Zion Moselem Lutheran Church, 340 Moselem Church Road, Richmond Township, will hold its holiday bazaar today at 9 a.m., with the raffle starting at 2 p.m. A homemade quilt will be the grand prize. There will be homemade soups and other foods available to buy to eat in or takeout.
• The Rev. Robert Kramer will be the supply pastor at Salem Lutheran Church, 8410 Lancaster Ave., Bethel Township, for the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday. A social hour including refreshments will follow in the church’s multi-purpose room.
• Zion’s Lutheran Chrurch, 354 Zions Church Road, Perry Township, will be celebrating Christ the King on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.. Zion’s brass band will be offering special music throughout the service. Nov. 30 is the last collection date for warm children’s pajamas, to be distributed through Jesus, Jammies, & Joy.
• Trinity Lutheran Church, 527 Washington St., Reading, will hold Songs of Thankfulness and Praise on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. Dr. Cameron Lee Wentz will present a brief organ recital of joyful and uplifting pieces in preparation for Thanksgiving celebrations with family and friends.
