A number of “No Kings” demonstrations protesting President Donald Trump will be held this weekend in the Lehigh Valley and across the country.
The demonstrations, scheduled for Saturday, follow similar protests against the president and his administration that were held in June.
Organizers wrote on the No Kings website that the June protests “peacefully mobilized millions of people to take to the streets,” but that now “President Trump has doubled down” on his policies, including the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration. They accuse Trump of threatening to overtake elections, gutting health care and environmental protections, and driving up the cost of living, among other things.
“Our peaceful movement is only getting bigger and bigger. ‘NO KINGS’ is more than just a slogan; it is the foundation our nation was built upon,” the website states. “Born in the streets, shouted by millions, carried on posters and chants, it echoes from city blocks to rural town squares.”
The following No Kings demonstrations will be held in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas:
Office of Rep. Ryan Mackenzie 1125 S. Cedar Crest Blvd. Salisbury Township, noon to 1:30 p.m.
Centre Square Circle, Easton, noon to 2 p.m.
725 Eighth Ave., Bethlehem, 3-5 p.m.
Emrick Boulevard and Freemansburg Avenue, Bethlehem Township, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Lehighton Trailhead – D&L Trail Spur, noon to 1 p.m.
Lenape Park, 504 Constitution Ave., Perkasie, 9-11 a.m.
More than 100 political groups, including the ACLU, MoveOn and Indivisible have partnered for the upcoming demonstrations. More information can be found on the No Kings website at nokings.org.
Before the first No Kings protests in June, similar nationwide Not My Presidents Day demonstrations were held in February to coincide with the Presidents Day holiday. The June No Kings protests were held the same day as Trump’s military parade in Washington to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Army.
