Pittston Area Superintendent Kevin Booth has checked himself into rehabilitation for at least a month following his arrest on charges alleging he came home drunk and beat his wife last week, according to court records.
Booth, 54, is facing simple assault and harassment charges after his wife, Jessica Booth, alleged he came home drunk the night of Oct. 5 and proceeded to assault and choke her.
According to police, Kevin Booth initially told investigators that he had “no idea” what happened but later denied the allegations.
He was due in court Thursday morning to answer to a protection-from-abuse order Jessica Booth obtained against him, but that matter was delayed at his request.
Attorney Kurt T. Lynott wrote in a motion that the continuance was necessary due to Kevin Booth “being admitted to inpatient treatment for a period of at least 30 days.”
As a result, Luzerne County President Judge Stefanie J. Salavantis postponed the hearing until Nov. 20.
Kevin Booth’s preliminary hearing on the criminal charges has also been continued until Nov. 18.
Booth, the school’s superintendent since January 2016, remains free on $2,500 unsecured bail following his arrest.
The school district has refused to reveal his employment status since his arrest, saying in a statement last week that the district “can not comment publicly on the handling of personal matters.”
