A 29-year-old Allentown man is dead after being hit by a vehicle Friday night in the city.

The man was hit and run over by the vehicle “following an incident” around 7:55 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Fourth Street, according to a news release from Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio. The man was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Buglio said he is withholding the man’s identity “to allow the family the opportunity to grieve this tragic loss privately.”

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center.

In addition to the coroner’s office, the Allentown Police Department and Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office are also investigating.
