ALLENTOWN, Pa. – With the Thanksgiving holiday this week, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is urging motorists to use caution driving through the Route 61 Frackville to St. Clair reconstruction project work zone in Schuylkill County.
With holiday traffic and potential inclement weather this week, drivers are advised to allow for extra time and use caution driving through the work zone on Route 61 between Frackville and St. Clair, according to a press release from PennDOT.
Officials say the Route 61 Frackville to St. Clair Improvement Project includes full depth pavement reconstruction, safety improvements including realignment of several substandard curves, heavy excavation, intersection upgrades at Darkwater Rd., wider shoulders, reconstruction and/or rehabilitation of eight culverts and four retaining walls, a bridge, slope stabilization, message boards, sign structures, ADA curb ramps and miscellaneous construction.
The project began in the Spring of 2024 and is anticipated to be complete in February 2029, according to the release.
