PITTSBURGH, PA — After eight years, a Downtown Korean restaurant and it nearby cafe on Liberty Avenue have announced they are going out of business permanent.y
The Bae Bae’s Kitchen and Bae Bae’s Cafe closures were announced on social media by Ashley Bae, who operated the businesses along with her husband, Edward Lai.
“Eight years ago, we left LA and drove across the country for eight long days with a dream that felt bigger than us,” Bai wrote in an Instagram post.
“I was six months pregnant exhausted, and hopeful all at once, traveling with our little rescue pup Bobbi and believing Pittsburgh would be the place where our new life could begin. We opened Bae Bae’s Kitchen in October 2017. My son was born just three months before we opened the restaurant.
“I was learning a new city while preparing for motherhood, finding a new home and running a brand-new business from scratch.”
Bae Bae’s initially had announced its closure in January, but had subsequently reopened as an evenings-only club.
“Closing this chapter hurts, but I’m choosing to see it with gratitude,” Bae wrote. “Our customers, friends, neighbors and our team who became family. Your kindness, your patience, your encouragement, every message, every smile, ever warm hug…you carried me through the hardest years of my life. I will never forget it.”
