Joseph Paul Vitris, 63, of Scranton, died unexpectedly Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Samuel Frank Vitris Sr. and Jacqueline Terruso Vitris and was a 1980 graduate of West Scranton High School. Joseph was an avid volunteer at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center and an active participant at the West Side Senior Center. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched as a Gift of Life donor. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Vitris, Jr.

Surviving is his sister-in-law, Judith Vitris, Scranton; nieces, Sabrina Santucci and husband, Chris; and Shalane Vitris and her fiancé, Shawn Dente; and a nephew, Samuel Vitris III, and his wife, Taryn; his great-nephew, Brennan Snyder; and great-niece, Brynlee Santucci. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton.

Friends may call Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.
