Law enforcement officials in Philadelphia have announced the arrest of a 27-year-old man from the city’s East Oak Lane neighborhood and charged him with murder in the death of an off-duty firefighter that happened on Wednesday.

On Thursday, police announced that Isaac Zayas, 27, of East Oak Lane, has been apprehended and charged with murder and related offenses in the Oct. 15, 2025, death of 56-year-old Antonio Rodriguez, who was killed in a home along the 4700 block of Shelmire Avenue early Wednesday.

At that time, police said, Zayas was taken into custody without incident at the scene after officers responded to a report of a disturbance on that block at about 3:51 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

According to police, when police confronted Zayas at the home where the incident occurred, he “informed officers that he had fatally assaulted his uncle.”

Police have also said that, when officers arrived, they didn’t immediately see any visible signs of injury to Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was pronounced at the scene at about 4:13 a.m. on Wednesday.

Police said an investigation is still ongoing.
