A woman was shot Wednesday evening during a dispute between two families who live next to each other, according to Philadelphia police.

Officers conducted the investigation in the pouring rain along Ogontz Avenue, near 69th Avenue, in the city’s West Oak Lane section.

Police said the shooting happened at around 5 p.m. after an ongoing argument between two families who are neighbors that live in homes that are attached.

Investigators said the family of the 28-year-old victim was about to take her to the hospital in a private vehicle when police arrived but officers told them to put her in the patrol car so police could rush her to Einstein Medical.

Her life likely depended on how quickly police could get her there.

She was shot in the side of her chest and initially placed in critical condition, but doctors were able to save her life, according to police.

Investigators said they aren’t sure why the dispute escalated into a shooting but said they know shots were fired from two separate locations near each other.

“So, we know five shots were fired from two separate caliber semi-automatic weapons,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “We did find some private surveillance cameras in the immediate area, so that will be part of our investigation.”

Police are questioning two men, including one who had a gun on him at the scene. However, police said they aren’t sure if he was one of the shooters.

Officers said that man is cooperating.

The other man was taken in on an unrelated felony warrant and is also being questioned about the shooting.
