Gartrell, Victor R., 86, Windber, passed away November 27, 2025 at home. Born May 4, 1939 in Johnstown, son of the late Edward C. and Anna (Centrich) Gartrell. Preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Edward, James and George; sisters, Elizabeth Galayda; Madeline Siplivy; Erna Kaminsky and Joan Rzeszut; brother-in-law, Fred Vespa and his wife Elizabeth. 

Survived by loving wife of 61 years, Kathryn N. (Vespa) Gartrell; daughter, Lisa M. Yingling; granddaughter, Spencer Yingling and her fiancé, Paul Heming; sisters, Barbara Hurtack; Diana Rzeszut and Evelyn Rzeszut; also by numerous nieces and nephews. 

Vic was an outstanding bowler in his younger years but later, golf became his passion. He loved golfing with his nephew, Skip Galayda, and friends. If you were lucky enough to know Vic, you knew that he loved nothing or no one more than his granddaughter, Spencer. He wore the title of “Papa” so very proudly.

Family will receive friends at Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home of Windber on Thursday December 4th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. departure for his Funeral mass celebrated 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Fr. Larry Lacovic. Committal to follow at church cemetery mausoleum with military honors by Windber VFW.
