Shopping for the holidays continued on Saturday with Small Business Saturday.
Last year’s snow caused local businesses to scramble, this year it was all about making a comeback or businesses opening new storefronts.
After years of being a pop-up shop, Flagship City Press now has a storefront.
Deanna Rupp, co-owner of Flagship City Press said, “This is a unique store. There’s nothing quite like it. So I feel like that’s another reason why we wanted to bring it to Erie and switch it up.”
The small business is known for the stationary, books, notepads and other unique Erie- centric gifts. The co-owners knew the wanted to call downtown Erie home.
Corinne Kraus, the co-owner of Flagship City Press said, “The small businesses make up the downtown and it gives it that family feel and we just wanted to be a part of that.”
Just around the block, numerous vendors set up shop in the Boston Store to sell their homemade goods, like Julie Shanahan.
“There’s a lot of new trends coming out with the dehydrated oranges, wreaths, garlands even with that rustic feel”, said Shanahan.
While this year’s Small Business Saturday was a first year for some businesses, for others it was a redemption after last year’s snow.
“Last year it was a huge it for all of us in the community that do small business, especially Small Business Saturday because that’s the main event of the holiday season”, said Shanahan.
Shop owners said they rely on these kind of community events to keep their businesses going.
Many local businesses have different holiday hours for shopping. Cyber Monday deals for the season kick off on Monday.
