Today marks the first day of rifle deer season in Pennsylvania.
Over 500,000 hunters are expected to head out into the woods to harvest the trophy deer, engage with nation, manage wildlife, and secure healthy venison, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Last year, across the 2024-25 deer seasons, an estimated 476,880 deer were harvested, most of them antlerless.
This year, there will be some expanded opportunities for hunters as there will be two Sundays open for deer hunting on November 30th and December 7th. On the 7th, hunting will be prohibited in state parks, but it will be allowed elsewhere. Last year, there was only one Sunday permitted. That changed with the passage of a law that lifted a prohibition on Sunday hunting.
Along with the regular tips on wearing orange on your head and torso, Game Warden Jared Marzka with the Game Commission said that hunters should keep a few other things in mind.
Deer season ends Saturday, December 13th.
