First quarterBrandin Echols picks off Allen
Fresh off a turnover-riddled loss against the Houston Texans, Josh Allen began his day with an interception. He was picked off by cornerback Brandin Echols while targeting Gabe Davis around Pittsburgh’s 35-yard line.
The Bills had some good momentum on the drive after an 18-yard James Cook run and a first-down pass to Brandin Cooks, but it stalled after passing midfield.
Buffalo was also set back by a false start from Alec Anderson, who is starting at right tackle in place of the injured Spencer Brown.
The score is tied 0-0 with 11:11 remaining in the first quarter. Pittsburgh has the ball on its own 35-yard line.
Pregame
The Bills return to action against the Steelers in Pittsburgh after dropping their last game against the Houston Texans on “Thursday Night Football.” The nail-biting loss in Houston dropped Buffalo’s record to 7-4 and the No. 7 (and final) AFC playoff seed, a game ahead of the Texans.
Looking to get back in the win column, the Bills will be without starting tackles Dion Dawkins and Spencer Brown. Buffalo conceded a season-high eight sacks last week, and now will face a Steelers team that has the fifth-most sacks in the NFL (34).
Pittsburgh’s 85.3 Pro Football Focus pass rush grade is the highest-graded part of its defense, which PFF rates as the eighth-best overall in the NFL. Despite boasting one of the league’s top defenses, the Steelers rank 24th in PFF’s offensive grade.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will start this week after being sidelined with a left wrist injury last week, but he still has several broken bones in his left wrist, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
The Steelers are 6-5 and hold a 0.5-game lead in the AFC North over the 6-6 Baltimore Ravens. Sunday’s matchup is crucial for both teams’ playoff hopes as the regular season winds down into its final month.
