Larry Arlan Baver

OBITUARY

Larry Arlan Baver, 92, passed away on November 24, 2025, in his Shoemakersville residence with his loving family by his side, as was his wish. He was the loving husband of Carolyn E. Kunkle Baver.

Born in Leesport, he was the son of the late Arlan E. and Mae E. (Stetzler) Baver.

He graduated from Perry High School in 1951 and went on to Penn State University main campus, where he was a member of the ATO Fraternity.

He was drafted into the Army from 1953 to 1955, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Nevada at the atomic testing site where he tested nuclear bombs. After his honorable discharge, he resumed his college education and graduated in 1959.

He worked at the Reading Foundry and then went on to Roy J. Fritz Plumbing and Heater. He retired in 2012 as the owner and operator.

He broke many records in basketball and baseball in his younger days. He was a member of the Penn State Hall of Fame as a baseball pitcher. Larry was also a member of the Hamburg Hall of Fame for basketball. He came out of his “retirement” to pitch for the Lebanon Valley baseball Association. Larry was a very active member of the Hamburg Athletic Association. He was key to the establishment of the Babe Ruth team, the little league of Hamburg. His passing marks the end of a baseball and basketball family dynasty–Elmer, Arlan, and Larry Baver.

At the time of his passing, Larry was the oldest member of the Keystone Social Quarters.

Left to treasure Larry’s memory is his wife, Carolyn; his children, Theresa (John) Kurtz, Shoemakersville, and Patricia Kunkle, Arlington, VA; three grandchildren: Andrew, Elizabeth, and Aaron Kurtz.
