A 12-inch pipe rupture has led to heavy flooding and some evacuations along an Allentown road, authorities said.

The water main break happened around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday along North 13th Street, between Liberty and Gordon streets, Susan Sampson, communications manager for the Lehigh County Authority, told lehighvalleylive.com.

As of 2:45 p.m., North 13th Street is closed between Liberty and Gordon streets, Sampson said.

The break sent water rushing through the area, with photos showing soaked buildings and a car driving through the heavy, muddy waters.

Two businesses, including a children’s daycare, shut down early as a result of the rupture and evacuated the building, Sampson said.

There were no reported injuries or rescues, Allentown Assistant Chief of Police-Operations Michael J. Becker Jr. told lehighvalleylive.com.

The Lehigh County Authority posted on its website that crews have responded and will begin shutting down the water for repairs. Customers in the area will then experience little to no water pressure, the authority posted.

There is some road damage as a result of the flooding, Sampson said. She said road restoration is expected to begin Thursday.
