Drivers along the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia should be aware that a construction project at Logan Square could cause some traffic issues along the roadway for the next few months.
PennDOT officials have announced that, starting Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, crews will begin a sidewalk and curb improvement project along the parkway, at Logan Square, between 18th and 20th streets, that will cause weekday lane closures in that area.
In order to do the sidewalk installations, along with inlet and stormwater pipe installations, there will be a lane closure along the Ben Franklin Parkway, in both directions in that area, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, officials said, from Monday through Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Officials said that, during construction, the Logan Circle sidewalk and access to Swann Fountain will be closed to the public.
Additionally, the following vehicle lanes will be closed:
Inside lane around Logan Circle
Left inbound lane of Benjamin Franklin Parkway
Left lane of 19th Street north of the Circle
This project, officials said, will reconstruct the 15-foot-wide outer sidewalk around the circle at Logan Square and will install eight ADA ramps.
The area will also get updated curbs and reconstructed drainage inlets.
PennDOT said that drivers through that area should allow themselves extra travel time as there could be traffic delays near the work area.
