
December wasn’t an hour old when the Erie area’s first winter weather advisories of the month got on the clock.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued separate winter weather advisories for southern Erie County and for northern Erie County and Crawford County starting in the early morning of Tuesday, Dec. 2, and running into that evening.

Here’s what to know about the advisories and about the forecast for the Erie region Dec. 1-2.
Winter weather advisory issued for Erie, Crawford counties
The weather service set winter weather advisories for 1 a.m. Dec. 2 through 7 p.m. Dec. 2 throughout Erie and Crawford Counties.

The advisories call for 3 inches to 6 inches of new snow, with greater totals possible in some places. In both instances the heaviest snowfall is likely between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., and lake-effect snow showers are likely the afternoon of Dec. 2.
An earlier winter weather advisory for southern Erie County was set to expire Dec. 1 at 7 a.m.
The weather service also has issued winter weather advisories in Warren, Venango, Forest and Mercer counties and in Chautauqua County, New York, and Ashtabula County, Ohio.
Erie-area weather forecast
The weather service forecast for Erie on Dec. 1 calls for a chance of early morning snow. Skies will then become partly sunny, with a high temperature around 33 degrees. Winds will be from the north at 5 mph to 10 mph, becoming light and variable in the afternoon.
The chance of snow the night of Dec. 1 is 100%, according to the weather service. New snow accumulation of an inch to 3 inches is possible. The low will be around 26 and winds will be from the southeast at 3 mph to 6 mph.
On Dec. 2, expect snow through noon, piling up an inch to 3 inches. The high will be near 34 and winds will be from the north at 5 mph to 10 mph in the morning.
There is a chance of nighttime snow Dec. 2, but little to no accumulation is forecast. The low will be around 24.
Greater snowfall is possible in areas including but not limited to Edinboro, Springboro, Waterford, Cambridge Springs and Canadohta Lake. The forecast calls for 2 inches to 4 inches of snow in those locations the night of Dec. 1 and an additional 2 inches to 4 inches of snow Dec. 2. Snow could be heavy times.
