EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA —The season’s first winter storm is predicted to arrive in Eastern Pennsylvania this week, bringing snow to some areas as well freezing rain, according to the National Weather Service.
The system, expected to arrive early Tuesday, may begin as snow but will transition to mainly rain from south to north into the early afternoon. Forecasters warn conditions could lead to slick roads during the morning commute. However, any snow early Tuesday will shift to rain by mid-morning, the National Weather Service predicts.
The storm could arrive as early as 4 a.m. in Philadelphia, with a transition to all rain by 10 a.m. in that area, the National Weather Service said.
Some parts of eastern Pennsylvania are expected to see snowfall accumulations of 1 to 4 inches at a rate of about half-an-inch to 1 inch of snow falling per hour. Rainfall estimates, including frozen precipitation, are between 0.75-1.25 inches.
Confidence is high that snow will impact the Tuesday morning commute NW of I-95. The I-95 corridor could see some snow/sleet at the onset before a change to rain. Thereafter and elsewhere, an all-day rain is expected with total rainfall near 1″. #PAwx #NJwx #DEwx #MDwx pic.twitter.com/AwO75BU5RF

Some forecasters predict more significant accumulation for the area. AccuWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said 3 to 6 inches of snow is possible in parts eastern Pennsylvania.
AccuWeather’s winter weather experts said they are monitoring the possibility of at least one more impacting storm through the first 10 days of December.
