The Erie School Board has received a formal proposal from the community to consider renaming Harding Elementary School in honor of Colonel John Boyd, an Erie native and alumnus of Harding and Strong Vincent High School. Boyd became a distinguished U.S. Air Force officer and one of the nation’s most influential military strategists, whose concepts have also shaped business strategy worldwide.
No decision has been made at this time on the name change, however, in accordance with Board Policy 701.1, the district will hold a public information session to explain the naming process and share details about the proposal.
The Public Session will be held on Thursday Dec. 4 beginning at 6 p.m. at Harding Elementary School Auditorium located at 820 Lincoln Ave.
Community members, parents, staff, and alumni are invited to attend to learn more about the proposal and review process, provide feedback, and express interest in serving on the Naming Review Committee, which will evaluate the proposal and gather community input before making a recommendation to the school board.
Additional information about the proposal, the review process, and ways to share feedback is available at eriesd.org.
