PennDOT has implemented a number of restrictions on various roads ahead of a winter storm expected to hit eastern Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
The storm is expected to bring up to 5 inches of snow to the Lehigh Valley, and potentially more north of the region, in the Poconos. PennDOT said in a news release that snowfall rates could reach a half an inch or three-quarters of an inch of snow per hour.
Road crews are pre-treating roads ahead of the storm to prevent ice from forming.
PennDOT said there will be Tier 1 restrictions on the following roads beginning 5 a.m. Tuesday:
Route 22 from Interstate 78 to the New Jersey border
Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension Interstate 476 from the Lehigh Valley exit to the Clarks Summit exit
Route 33
Interstate 180
Interstate 81 from I-78 to the New York border
I-80 from the Lamar exit to the New York border
Interstate 84
Under Tier 1 restrictions, the following vehicles are not allowed on affected roads:
Tractors without trailers
Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers
Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers
Enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks
Passenger vehicles towing trailers
