John Joseph Kravitz

OBITUARY

John Joseph Kravitz, 76, of Pittston, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Born in Hughestown on August 16, 1949, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Bartoli) Kravitz.

After receiving his education in the Pittston Area schools, John enlisted in the United States Navy in November 1967 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. John was stationed on the USS Cambria with deployments throughout the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Cuba, Europe and West Africa.

In August 1971, John married the love of his life, Francine Marriggi Kravitz. Together, they raised three children, John, Nicholas & Gina. His family meant the world to him, teaching his children the value of hard work, purpose and faith. He enjoyed holidays and Sunday dinners with family, old Westerns, national politics, and sports. In his spare time, John loved to paint, garden, and listen to the oldies and country music.

Together, John and Francine owned and operated the Seafood Shanty in Hughestown and the Expert Window Cleaning Co. in Pittston.

Surviving are wife Francine, sons John P. Kravitz and wife Lisa (Taylor, PA), Nicholas F. Kravitz, Esq. and wife Alexandra (Dupont, PA), and Gina M. Kravitz (Miami Beach, FL).; Grandchildren, John Jacob, Kaylee Marie, and Benjamin Joseph Kravitz; Nicholas Thomas and Ethan Fox Kravitz; sister Helen (Kravitz) Ankenbrand and brother Joseph Kravitz, sister-in-law Diane R. Marriggi, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret (Kravitz) Branas and his mother-in-law, Regina M. Marriggi.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the professional staff at the Wilkes Barre General Hospital for their care and compassion during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Graziano Funeral Home, Pittston.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 4, 2025, between 8:00 am – 10:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 35 William St., Pittston, PA 18640. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am with Military Funeral Honors by the U.S. Navy and the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston to follow in the church.

Interment will be private. John will be laid to rest in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Pittston, PA.
