Chief Meteorologist Cait Westerholm and Severe Weather Team 6 have released their winter forecast (watch the video above), predicting a colder and snowier December with the average temperature trending just below average.
This year’s weak La Nina is expected to bring more frequent, smaller snowfall events rather than large East Coast storms, similar to last year.
January and February are likely to see temperature changes, with January near to slightly below average and February trending warmer.
This could lead to mixed precipitation events.
Snowfall totals are expected to be near average, with the Laurel Highlands receiving a total of 70 to 85 inches and the Northern Alleghenies a total of 50 to 65 inches.
The Eastern Alleghenies may see slightly below average snowfall, ranging from 25 to 45 inches.
