Erie Police are investigating a homicide that occurred around 1:00 a.m. on the city’s west side.
Police reported that the victim, a 23-year-old man, was shot in the leg during an altercation outside his residence in the 500 block of West 9th Street.
Investigators stated that the victim then got into his car and attempted to drive himself to the hospital. Relatives and authorities later found him outside his car at 412 West 8th Street.
EmergyCare rushed the man to the hospital, but he did not survive.
Deputy Chief Lorah stated, “Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle running… just before 2:00 a.m.”
Police declared that it is too soon to determine if they have a person of interest in the crime. Coroner Lyell Cook plans to conduct an autopsy tomorrow. The victim’s name has not been released.
