This is Eater’s guide to all the new restaurants, bars, and cafes that have opened this week. When we’ve been to a place, we will then include an abbreviated number of openings on our heatmap to let you know the ones we like. If there’s an opening in your neighborhood that we’ve missed, let us know at philly@eater.com.
Center City: Texas-based Japanese chain Uchi made its Philadelphia debut on Monday, November 17. Helmed by award-winning chef Tyson Cole, Uchi adds to a handful of new Japanese spots opening in Philly in the last few years. The spacious restaurant, which includes a full bar, an omakase counter, and plenty of plush booths, will highlight sushi as well as other hot and cold Japanese-style dishes. Happy hour is a highlight, and the restaurant is already busy in its Center City location. 1620 Sansom Street
Center City: Mighty Bread Grab & Go brings the bakery’s beloved sourdough loaves, sandwiches, cookies, and pastries to a whole new neighborhood. As the name implies, there’s no space for sit-down dining, but owner Chris DiPiazza’s quick-fix concept is already proving very popular. 1644 Pine Street
Center City: After a fire in 2022 that shuttered the newly opened bar, Wine Dive is finally back open and running as of Thursday, November 6. As the name would suggest, the bar is pouring wine, but there’s also plenty of cocktails, beer, and food to be had. The owners (the same people who run Grace & Proper and Sonny’s Cocktail Joint) are describing the vibe as “Old Hollywood meets Atlantic City,” which basically means a dark, sexy vibe with plenty of wood paneling and tufted seating. Food includes wedge salads, pimento cheese with Cheez-Its, and soft serve ice cream. 1534 Sansom Street
Fishtown: Chef Yehuda Sichel made a name for himself with sandwiches at his Center City spot, Huda. Now, he’s bringing the same level of detail to Huda Burger. The burgers are made special by house-made milk bread, which offers a tender, sweet-salty foundation for smash burgers and fried chicken sandwiches. Sides include salads, milkshakes, and fries. It’s a small space built mostly for takeout, but there are a few tables for dining in. 1603 Frankford Avenue
Kensington: Philly doesn’t have a ton of Nicaraguan food, but Pinolero is changing that, at least in this neighborhood. Owner Lilliam Orozco is serving coffee and espresso, plus specialties from the wood-fired grill like empanadas de maduro, nacatamales, and res asado with gallo pinto. Open daily from noon to 7 p.m. in a location about a block from Caphe Roasters, this spot is already a destination. 1100 E. Tioga Street
Spring Garden: Cerveau is a new pizza spot from chef Joe Hunter. Hunter, who was one of the original partners at the beloved but now-closed Pizza Brain. He even picked the name as an homage to Pizza Brain: “cerveau” is French for “brain.” The restaurant is still in limited operations, but the menu features inventive seasonal vegetable starters and excellent thin-crust pizzas. A liquor license is on its way. 990 Spring Garden Street
University City: Oh Brother Philly debuted its latest area location on Friday, November 7, on Drexel University’s campus. The industrial-styled space with a walk-up ordering counter offers its famed rib-eye cheesesteaks, burgers, fries, and mozzarella sticks, with a neon-lit accent wall spelling out “Say Cheese(Steak)” upon entry. 3400 Lancaster Avenue
