Newswatch 16’s Mackenzie Aucker traveled around Williamsport to see how folks were spending their snow day.
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Folks in Williamsport were out shoveling as the snow continued to slowly fall. Thanks to the winter storm, children got a day off from school — eager to get out and enjoy the fluffy white stuff.Â
“That’s all they wanted to do all morning, woke us straight up, saw snow, came up, woke us up, came out and did the sidewalks, cleaned the car off,” said Nick Wilton, Williamsport.Â
“Snowman, way better than that, build snowmen, that’s all we’re going to do,” said Addie Askins, Williamsport.
This is the first major snowfall to hit the Williamsport area. While others were having fun in the snow, residents shoveled their sidewalks and driveways.Â
“I’ve only been out here maybe 10 minutes, so I’ve been kind of watching for it to slow down so we don’t have the accumulation to deal with, thinking about maybe getting my snow blower out because I have a hard time with shoveling because I’m getting up there in age,” said Jack Ardrey, Williamsport. Â
“Oh probably shoveling for maybe a half an hour, so far, I still have a lot more to go in the back,” said Jane Hall, Williamsport.
Jane Hall from Williamsport tells us she was ready for Tuesday’s snowfall — while she enjoys the snow, she doesn’t look forward to the first flakes hitting the ground, but gets used to winter weather as it comes.
“I’m always prepared, even though if the weather forecast isn’t correct, that’s fine with me, if it’s less, that makes me happy, but yeah, I’m always prepared for it,” said Hall.
When the first snow falls, Hall and her grandson from Sullivan County play a game that involves a little friendly competition.Â
“We do a contest every year, he builds a snowman up there, and I build one here, and then we send pictures and decide whose is better,” said Hall.
Whether it was shoveling or building snowmen, more snow days like this one are ahead as we get into the winter months.
