LEHIGH TWP., Pa. – A crash in Lehigh Township, Northampton County closed a stretch of Route 248 early Tuesday afternoon.
County dispatchers said it happened on the 3900 block of Lehigh Drive in the “S” turns around 10:45 a.m.
The crash occurred in front of a township firefighter in his travels, a fire official said. With the assistance of a passerby, both were able to rapidly remove the driver from the vehicle as it was catching fire.
At least one person was taken to the local hospital. That person’s condition is not known.
The Lehigh Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. said that “without the immediate actions of these two individuals and having a crew at station just returning from another call, we would have a much worse result.”
Officials extend thanks to those in the public that stopped to help save this person’s life.
Lehigh Drive was back open at around 3 p.m.
