History, cheesesteaks, and the Amish—these are perhaps the three things that Pennsylvania is most known for. There’s a reason for that, of course, and there’s much to be thankful for regarding those things and all the bits in between. But, there’s so much more to discover in this state, and this list will show you some of the places we’re most thankful for (there is a cheesesteak option included, because of course there is).

1. Pine Creek GorgealtPicnik/Wirestock – stock.adobe.com

Location: The Tioga State Forest, near Waterville and Ansonia

Why We Love It: Known as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania, this area may be well-known to locals, but it certainly isn’t famous outside of the state. It doesn’t really make sense why, because the terrain looks like something out of the European countryside and has jaw-dropping beauty in every weather. In the spring, mists cling to the hills and follow the river, creating an ambiance straight out of the Twilight movies. Summer brings heat and flowers in the early months, with the river full and roaring. Fall brings foliage that could make New England gasp in envy, and winter frost makes the valley seem like something out of a snow globe.

2. The Falls Trail/Ricketts Glen Fall Loop

Location: Ricketts Glen State Park, near Benton

Why We Love It: You can’t beat a waterfall hike, but this rings even more true when one trail has over twenty waterfalls to see! The Falls Trail in Ricketts Glen State Park is beloved by the community for both easy access to a few waterfalls, but also for the harder parts of a hike that can truly prove a challenge for those looking for a good workout. It’s well marked and maintained, and provides unforgettable pictures and memories.

3. East Broad Top RailroadaltLarry – stock.adobe.com

Location: Rockhill Furnace

Related Content

Why We Love It: Whether or not you’re looking to live out your inner steampunk fantasies, learn about a piece of American history, or just want a beautiful ride along a train, the East Broad Top Railroad company has you covered! The experience is, as said, beautiful, but it’s also extremely authentic. Nearly all of the equipment used is original, and as a result, the space is also a National Historical Landmark.

4. Dalessandro’s Steaks

Location: Philadelphia

Related Content

Why We Love It: The inclusion of this restaurant over other Philly cheesesteak options is going to be controversial, but facts are facts, and this spot has overwhelmingly been the best reviewed. Part of the controversy is that in a world that tends to prefer larger cuts of steak on a cheesesteak sandwich, Dalessandro’s cuts its steak very finely. But this works well because every bite with the cheese and onions has a more balanced element to it! The chew and mouthfeel overall is superior as well.

5. The Philadelphia Museum of Artaltpixs:sell – stock.adobe.com

Location: Philadelphia

Why We Love It: With a great location, top-class curation, and thousands upon thousands of things to see, you’d think that this museum would be a top choice for anyone visiting Philadelphia. Well, you’d be wrong. Many people believe that this museum, although constantly rated as one of the best art museums in the United States, is critically underrated. To be fair, much of this is probably due to the fact that the Rocky stairs are right out in front, and many people choose to run up these stairs for their bit of boxing glory rather than visit the gem of a museum right next to them!
