After one week of heat acclimation (a distant memory now), one week of practice and 15 weeks of game action, the high school football season in Pennsylvania is near the end with only six PIAA championship games remaining.
Gold will be awarded with afternoon and evening games at Cumberland Valley in Mechanicsburg between Thursday and Saturday.
Six of the 12 teams playing for state gold return to Chapman Field after playing in the PIAA title game a year ago.
Three teams are looking to repeat with Bishop McDevitt in Class 5A, Northwestern Lehigh in Class 3A and Bishop Guilfoyle Academy in Class A trying to win back-to-back state crowns.
Two of the six games are rematches from overtime thrillers last season.
Bishop McDevitt faces Roman Catholic in 5A after a 34-31 win a year ago, and Northwestern Lehigh squares off with Avonworth in consecutive 3A finals after earning the 36-33 win in 2024.
