(WHTM) – Pennsylvanians will return to the polls in just a few months for the 2026 primary election.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, as of December 2, 2025, the spring primary election is set for May 19, 2026.

Candidates can begin circulating and filing nomination petitions on February 17, and have until March 10 to file their petitions. Objections to petitions can be filed up until March 17.

Voters have until May 4 to register to vote in the primary, and the last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot is May 12.

All primary election ballots must be turned in to your county board of elections by 8 p.m. on May 19. Military and overseas absentee ballots can be returned up until May 26.

Pennsylvania voters will have the opportunity to vote for Governor, a member of Congress, and their local state lawmakers. Governor Josh Shapiro (D) is expected to run for re-election, while the Republicans may have a primary contest with multiple candidates looking for votes.

The November general election is on November 3, and residents have until October 19 to register to vote. The last day to request a mail-in or absentee ballot in the general election is October 27, with ballots due back by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
