The preliminary hearing for Pittston Area Superintendent Kevin Booth, who was arraigned on allegations that he strangled his wife, has been continued.

Booth, 55, of Pittston, appeared in Luzerne County Central Court on Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Carol Davenport.

Attorney Kurt Thomas Lynott, representing Booth, and assistant district attorney Julian F. Truskowski agreed to continue the hearing for three months.

Booth was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary offense of harassment on Oct. 6.

According to the police report, Jessica Booth told officers her husband, Kevin, “tossed me around a bit” and “choked” her. Police say Jessica Booth had redness on her neck. Kevin Booth denied the allegations.

Jessica Booth filed a temporary Protection From Abuse order the day after Booth was charged, which is still in effect. Days after the domestic dispute, Booth admitted himself to an inpatient rehabilitation center.

Assistant Superintendent John Haas has been leading Pittston Area school board meetings in place of Superintendent Booth.

Booth’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 3, 2026, at Luzerne County Central Court.
