UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – A massive data center complex being proposed for Air Products’ former headquarters in Upper Macungie Township will be under scrutiny later this month.

The township’s Zoning Hearing Board has scheduled a public hearing on the plans for 7300 Cetronia Road for Tuesday, December 16, at the municipal building.

The three-building, 2.6 million square foot campus is being proposed by Air Products for the place it called home for several decades. The industrial gas company relocated to a nearby, 53-acre campus at 1940 Air Products Boulevard in 2021.

Air Products previously sought to build three warehouses on the site, but those plans never materialized.

The new proposal is the first large-scale data center project to move to the forefront in the Lehigh Valley, but most likely not the last; the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission previously told 69 News it already has gotten wind of eight locations being eyed by developers.

The property is located in the Light Industrial (LI) Park Zoning District. Air Products is seeking approval from the Zoning Hearing Board to have a data center be deemed a “similar use” to those permitted within the LI district.

The public hearing on Dec. 16 will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Upper Macungie Township Municipal Building is located at 8330 Schantz Road.
